Throughout its 75 year history, Anglo Canadian has maintained a flexible approach to serving its customers and developing expertise to meet customer needs, whether in a capacity as ship agent, operator, broker, owner, liner principal or consultant. This flexibility is founded on the expertise of our staff and an entrepreneurial and independent approach to management of our activities. With a reputation for fairness in all of our business dealings, a broad range of activities and an international network of affiliates and correspondents, Anglo is always ready to tackle new business opportunities as agent, partner, principal or investor.

Some of the highlights in our corporate development include:

1932: Anglo Canadian Shipping Company is successfully incorporated to assume management of Canadian American Shipping Co. with a corporate identity reflecting the Company’s focus on trade to the U.K. from Canada

1939-45: Operation of 10 Park Steamship supply ships delivering Canadian goods to the war effort.

1946-66: Participation in Western Canada Steamship Ltd. operating 20 “Park type” vessels. A close association with the B.C. forest product industry, particularly H.R.
MacMillan interests.
Expansion of liner and agency representations.

1956: Appointed agent for d’Amico line

1960: Incorporation of a U.S. subsidiary, International Shipping Company Inc., expanding agency operations into Washington and Oregon

1969: Purchase by Hastings West Investment Ltd. with management maintaining a minority interest

1974: Incorporation of Westship International Inc., supervising U.S. east coast operations until 1996

1976: Purchase of North Pacific Shipping Company Ltd., expanding agency activities in B.C.

1980: Purchase of an interest in G.W. Nickerson Co. Ltd., expanding agency operations into B.C.’s northern ports

1990: Management purchases control of the Anglo group

1996: Equity involvement by the d’Amico group

2002: The Anglo Group, operating under the name of International Shipping, opened an office in Long Beach to service customers in California and provide a coastwise agency network. This arrangement was solidified in 2004 with the initiation of representative offices in Long Beach and San Francisco administered by our California General Manager, Andrew McDougall.
